01 · Scope

What this policy covers

This Privacy Policy applies to the TideCast iOS application and the features available through it. In this policy, “TideCast,” “we,” “our” and “us” refer to the TideCast service, while “you” refers to the person using the app.

By using TideCast, you acknowledge the practices described here. Permission-based features remain under your control through the app and iOS Settings.

02 · Information

Information TideCast handles

Profile and account details

This may include your display name, handle, profile photo, general profile area, quick-access state, joined crews, blocked or reported crews, and account preferences.

Fishing evidence and plans

When you create a field log or session plan, TideCast may handle the target species, water type, water clarity, lure or presentation, time window, outcome, date, notes, selected broad area, photos, plan goals, recommendations and post-session review details.

Crew activity and conversations

Crew features may include membership choices, brief progress, equipment responsibilities, field notes, reports, blocks, text messages, selected photos and voice messages.

Location information

If you enable location access, TideCast requests approximate location and reduces precision before resolving it into a broad-area name. The resulting area can help prefill a fishing log.

Purchase information

For coin purchases, TideCast handles the product identifier, verified StoreKit transaction identifier, coin quantity, purchase status, coin balance and Field Brief Plus unlock history. Apple handles billing credentials and the payment process.

Support correspondence

If you contact us, we receive the information included in your message, such as your email address, issue description and any material you choose to attach.

03 · Purpose

How information supports the app

  • Provide quick access, profile controls and account settings.
  • Create, edit, organize and delete fishing records and session plans.
  • Calculate personal patterns from completed fishing sessions.
  • Show supporting evidence for recommendations and plan suggestions.
  • Connect session plans with follow-up field records and reviews.
  • Provide crew briefs, responsibilities, notes, moderation controls and conversations.
  • Process verified coin purchases and apply Field Brief Plus unlocks.
  • Respond to support, privacy and account requests.
  • Protect the integrity of purchase delivery and comply with applicable obligations.
TideCast recommendations are planning aids built from the information available in the app. They do not replace current weather, access, safety or fishing-regulation checks.

04 · Permissions

Features you activate

TideCast asks for system permission at the moment you choose a feature that needs it:

  • Approximate location: resolves a broad-area label for fishing records.
  • Camera: captures a new profile photo or other image you choose to add.
  • Photo library: lets you select images for your profile, field logs or conversations.
  • Microphone: records a voice message when you start recording in a crew conversation.

You can change these permissions at any time in iOS Settings. Turning off a permission limits the related feature but does not prevent manual entry where the app offers it.

05 · Purchases

Coins and StoreKit

TideCast offers consumable coin packs through Apple’s in-app purchase system. The Coin Store describes the intended use before purchase. After Apple verifies a transaction, TideCast adds the corresponding coins and records the transaction identifier to prevent duplicate delivery.

Coins may be spent to unlock Field Brief Plus for an individual saved session plan. Each unlock remains associated with that plan. Billing, payment authorization, refunds and purchase-history services are governed by Apple’s terms and privacy practices.

06 · Disclosure

When information may be shared

Information may be disclosed in the following limited situations:

  • Apple platform services: for StoreKit purchases, permission handling, photo selection and broad-area resolution.
  • Legal and safety needs: when reasonably necessary to comply with law, a valid legal request, or to protect rights, safety and service integrity.
  • Business transition: if TideCast is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization or transfer of assets, subject to appropriate confidentiality safeguards.
  • With your direction: when you choose an action that clearly asks TideCast to make information available to another party.

We do not sell personal information for money or use fishing records to deliver third-party behavioral advertising.

07 · Retention

How long information is kept

Profile details, fishing records, plans, crew activity, conversations, coin balances and unlock history are retained while needed to provide the features you use. You can remove individual fishing records and plans through their editing controls, clear fishing history in Privacy & Data, or delete the account from Settings.

Support correspondence may be retained for as long as needed to resolve a request, maintain an appropriate record and meet legal obligations. Apple retains transaction and billing information according to its own policies.

08 · Control

Your privacy choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection or portability relating to personal information. You may also withdraw consent for permission-based features through iOS Settings.

  • Edit profile details from Passport or Settings.
  • Edit or delete fishing records and session plans.
  • Leave, report or block a crew through crew controls.
  • Clear fishing history from Passport → Settings → Privacy & Data.
  • Delete the account from Passport → Settings → Delete account.
  • Contact us to make a privacy request or ask a question.

We may ask for enough information to understand and verify a request. We will respond in the manner and timeframe required by applicable law.

09 · Safeguards

How information is protected

We use administrative and technical safeguards designed for the type of information TideCast handles. Purchase delivery relies on StoreKit transaction verification, and permission-based features use Apple’s system controls. No method of processing is completely secure, so we cannot promise absolute protection against every event.

10 · Age

Children’s privacy

TideCast is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information in a way that requires parental review or deletion, contact us so the request can be evaluated promptly.

11 · Updates

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as TideCast evolves or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the latest version. Material changes may also be presented through the app or another appropriate notice.
